Exploring emerging trends in social media, such as live video streaming, ephemeral content, social commerce, and the potential future developments in the social media landscape.

Greeting Marketers,
In the ever-evolving realm of social media where marketers are the modern-day warriors, staying ahead of trends is essential for conquering the digital battlefield. We have curated a list of emerging trends that will help you sharpen your strategies and reach your audience more effectively!

Reinventing Engagement LinkedIn Your Newsletter Nijja

LinkedIn’s newsletter readership has tripled within a year reaching over 1.3 million readers daily. The platform has capitalized on this trend by allowing users to publish not one but five newsletters! This enables you to showcase your expertise across several niches. What's more? Each newsletter subscriber automatically becomes one of your LinkedIn followers, boosting your online presence. In a bid to promote the newsletter feature, LinkedIn has also fixed its article editor for a smooth publishing experience.

An Improved Imitation & YouTube's Multifaceted Evolution

The recent updates on YouTube are transforming it into an all-encompassing content hub. It is testing a hum-to-search feature that lets users find content based on a hummed tune, streamlining content discovery. Google already released it in 2020 but there is a catch. YouTube allows you to discover reels, music, and videos in just 3 seconds whereas Google’s hum-to-search feature requires at least 15 seconds of audio. The video-sharing platform is also embracing podcasts by allowing podcasters to upload content via RSS feeds for seamless availability on YouTube Music.

Embracing the New Decentralized Platforms

As concerns about data breaches and privacy violations rise, users are seeking alternatives to traditional social media giants. Decentralized platforms like Mastodon, where data is distributed across a network of nodes instead of a central server, are gaining traction for their enhanced privacy and security features.

Why brands like Nordstrom and Zappos are revisiting print marketing

This year, 122-year-old fashion retailer Nordstrom re-launched its anniversary sale catalog after phasing out the print publication back in 2019. Similarly, Amazon-owned online retailer Zappos is ramping up print efforts by launching its first print catalog as part of its back-to-school marketing efforts. Seemingly, these retailers are inching into somewhat of a print renaissance, especially as the digital landscape becomes increasingly crowded, expensive and — thanks to recent data privacy regulations — harder to measure.

Twitter makes it harder for advertisers to promote their accounts, says goodbye to its oldest ads format

To help users advertise their accounts on the platform, Twitter had a feature through which accounts could be promoted with a 'Follow' CTA (call to action) button being displayed right next to the account. However, as per recent reports, the social media site has bid adieu to this feature and is informing advertisers of the same via email. Axios reported on Tuesday that Twitter will not be allowing advertisers to promote their accounts directly on the platform's timeline. The publication cited an email sent to advertising clients as its source.

Snapchat AI goes ‘rogue:’ Users react to chatbot posting story

Snapchat’s My AI has been behaving erratically for hundreds of millions of users worldwide. The AI chatbot posted a mysterious Story on its profile and responded in an unusual manner in chats, causing unease in its users. Launched earlier this year, Snapchat’s My AI chatbot is designed to behave as a friend Snapchatters can talk to and get help across a number of topics including places to visit, Lenses to use, and clothes to wear. The bot temporarily stopped working though, answering all questions with “Sorry, I encountered a technical issue ?” In addition to this, My AI also posted an image on its story – its very first – of what seems to be a wall or a ceiling. That story was deleted shortly.

Google Chrome will summarize entire articles for you with built-in generative AI

Google’s AI-powered Search Generative Experience (SGE) is getting a major new feature: it will be able to summarize articles you’re reading on the web, according to a Google blog post. SGE can already summarize search results for you so that you don’t have to scroll forever to find what you’re looking for, and this new feature is designed to take that further by helping you out after you’ve actually clicked a link. You probably won’t see this feature, which Google is calling “SGE while browsing,” right away.

With the ever-evolving landscape of social media, it is recommended to embrace the changes as soon as possible. This will not only bring digital marketers up to speed but also help their brands have an edge! Here are some key predictions in the social media ecosystem that will play a key role your audience’s interaction with your brands.

Twitter's Expansion and Subscription Model

After rebranding the platform as X, Elon Musk also removed the headline from new pieces to encourage journalists to post articles directly on X. This will reduce the vertical space a post takes over your screen fitting more content at once. Along with offering the capability to make transactions on the platform the CEO also plans to list jobs on its platform. However, you would not be able to access the best of Twitter until you have a blue subscription. Unlike the usual 280-word length with a paid subscription model, you can publish 4000 to 10,000 (even 25000) characters. Along with the direct messaging and longer videos (up to 2 hours), you get a cut of the company’s ad revenue! Additionally, Twitter is venturing into the podcast realm, entering a space dominated by Spotify and Apple.

A Departure from Tradition Threads

Web Interface Enhancement Threads are breaking away from traditional mobile-centric strategy by introducing a web interface. After its latest update, you can view, engage, and create threads directly from a desktop browser. This expansion offers greater flexibility and access for both users and marketers. In the fast-paced world of social media, change is the only constant. These trends are the vanguard of what's to come, promising to redefine how we connect and engage online.

As the lines between reality and the digital realm blur, we are excited to witness the emergence of technologies that will shape the way we interact for years to come. Stay tuned as we continue to unravel the dynamic world of technology, trends, and everything in between!
